Money Shouldn’t Be The Motivation

Career Tips

Benjamin Franklin once said:

“Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.”

Benjamin Franklin

We can all agree that profitability and market demand are important in choosing a career. But that should never be the primary motivation if you truly want to be fulfilled. Instead, see the next point.

Develop Your Interests

Career Tips

Again, I will use Late Professor Chinua Achebe as an example. He discovered his love for writing and storytelling while at the university. Also, He won a scholarship to study medicine but changed his studies to English literature at the University.

Achebe became fascinated with world religions and traditional African cultures and wrote stories as a university student. His carefully honed craft of writing and storytelling resulted in his first published book, Things Fall Apart. Who hasn’t read or at least heard about Things Fall Apart?

You don’t have to spend four to five years of your life studying a course you have no interest in.

Start Small

Career Advice

George Eliot, an English poet and novelist once said:

“Great things are not done by impulse but by a series of small things brought together,”

George Eliot

You should understand that things will never be the same. If you start out without shoes, you will get slippers. After that comes shoes and maybe boots if you so desire. Nothing ever is the same. Start small but dream big! You won’t be a graduate trainee all your life! So don’t be afraid to start there.

Stay Consistent

Among many career tips out there, this is one you should pay very close attention to. So many people know what they want to do, but few people can see it to the end.

It’s easy to say, I want to be a fashion consultant but it’s not easy to stick to that goal even when clients aren’t coming forth.

Stay Focused

You literally can’t achieve a lot if you don’t stay focused in whatever it is you want to do.

Staying focus is more than just having a strong will till the end, staying focused is discipline. It is knowing what you want and having a clear path to achieving it.

That said, I hope this will be a strong motivation for you in choosing and staying in that career path you want.
