Benue State University Student Protest Over Shooting Of President

Benue State University students shut down the campus and barricaded the entrance gates in protest over Comr. Tyonor Smith. Tyonor Smith, the President of the National Union of Benue State Student (NUBESS) was shot in the head by gunmen.

The student leader was shot at the gate of the Benue State University College of Health Sciences. He was rushed to the hospital and is responding to treatment.

The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Catherine Anene, explained that investigation points to campus politics. She also added that the election was around the corner and that his opponent(s ) might be responsible for the act.

The protesting students called on state security agencies and the Government leadership to mediate into the security challenges.
