Alex Iwobi Makes Forbes Africa ’30 Under 30′ List For 2019

Alex Iwobi makes Forbes Africa list in the just-unveiled 30 under 30‘ list for 2019. Undoubtedly, the sports category for this year was a well-thought-out one.

The list comprises names that have impacted the continent positively this year, including our very own Alex Iwobi.

The 2018 World Cup was a big deal in Africa, but Nigeria wouldn’t have made an appearance at the tournament if not for Iwobi. Recall that he scored the lone goal that secured a spot for the Super Eagles. For some fans, that was where their love for him started.

The 23-year-old, who is often compared to his uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha, has also been an integral part of Arsenal, where he plays alongside Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny. So far, he has made 100 appearances for the club.

Speaking with BBC Sport about the Okocha comparisons, he said:

I can never get tired of people comparing us. My uncle is an idol, someone I have always looked up to as a footballer.

I still have a long way to go, maybe one day, I can be on his level or greater.”

Iwobi, the only Nigerian sportsman on the list, was named alongside the likes of Aubameyang, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Caster Semenya, Wayde van Niekerk and more. Check out the other names in the sports category right here.
